Understanding OPT Health Insurance
OPT Health Insurance Facts:
– While the U.S. government does not mandate students to purchase insurance during OPT, given the high cost of healthcare, it is highly recommended that all students have health insurance coverage.
– During the OPT period, students remain on F1 visa status and are eligible for affordable alternative health insurance plans, which are typically much cheaper than those available to green card holders or U.S. citizens.
OPT Health Insurance Eligibility:
– All students in OPT are eligible to purchase OPT health insurance, regardless of their employment status.
– Students who are in the grace period (60 days grace period after graduation or the end of the OPT period) are not eligible to purchase OPT health insurance.
